This book was boring and just couldn't hold my interest, and the prose and characters were flat.

If you've missed this one, you've missed a winner. Jon Baxley has been nominated for a number of awards for this book. Once you read it, you'll know why.

Well done, Jon!

Someone else described this novel as Harry Potter for grownups, which is apt enough. The author has created a fun grownup fantasy, with loads of wit.

This book has received some amazing reviews and I thought it would be worth a read. Unfortunately the book was a big disappointment. The characters are flat and the author attempts to bring together far too many elements to make this "medieval fantasy" work. Common sword and sorcery themes are played out in ways that are only surprising in their rapidity.

This book, as the title implies, is very unsatisfying. It really did have a chance to be a good or even a great book.

I don't think it deserves one star like a couple other reviewers gave it, but I don't think it deserves five either. My rating is two and a half stars, but since you can't do a half, it's only two.

More character development and better more fluid prose and this novel could have been really good. Maybe in the sequel the author will have improved, I sure hope so.
